Performance

In our review of the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition, we put it through the gauntlet at 1080p, testing ray tracing and DLSS. Starting in Returnal, using maximum EPIC game settings, we found the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 to be very playable and it provided us with 85FPS at 1080p. This put it 6% ahead of the Radeon RX 7600 and 23% faster than the last generation GeForce RTX 3060 12GB video card. In Forspoken, we also found the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 Twin Edge OC to be very playable at the highest game settings, providing 67FPS, so we can hit over 60FPS at 1080p with the highest settings. This put it 34% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 12% faster than the last generation RTX 3060 12GB.

In The Callisto Protocol, we were able to crank up the game to maximum game settings at 1080p and get nearly 80FPS, so the game was very playable and the experience smooth. This pu tit at 25% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 29% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB video card. In Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, we saw the Radeon RX 7600 take the lead by 15% in performance. However, the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was no slouch, it was also playable at the highest game settings and provided over 90FPS for smooth gameplay, so it was very playable. It ended up being 24% faster than the last generation GeForce RTX 3060 12GB video card.

In Chernobylite Enhanced Edition we were easily able to run this game at the maximum game settings at 1080p at 120FPS, gameplay was very smooth. This made it 27% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 26% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB. In Dying Light 2 the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 matched performance with the Radeon RX 7600, both provided a playable experience at 107-108FPS. The ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was 15% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB. Finally, in Cyberpunk 2077 the Radeon RX 7600 took the lead by 7%, but the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was again no slouch, allowing a playable experience at 80FPS at 1080p with Ultra settings. It was 10% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB.

Ray Tracing

When it comes to Ray Tracing, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition video card gave the beat down to the Radeon RX 7600. The ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 also offered a nice upgrade in ray tracing performance compared to the previous generation GeForce RTX 3060 12GB. Starting off in Returnal, the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 allowed a playable experience at 68FPS with EPIC Ray Tracing at 1080p, gameplay was smooth. This was 33% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 21% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB.

In Forspoken, the performance was tough with ray tracing, but the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 did deliver the highest performance, and with DLSS it was playable. It ended up being 44% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 8% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB. In The Callisto Protocol the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was very playable with the highest ray tracing at over 60FPS. It was 9% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 29% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition was another game that was very demanding with ray tracing, and it did take DLSS to make it playable. Still, the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was the fastest video card and ended up being 226% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 32% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB. Dying Light 2 was also challenging with ray tracing, but DLSS made it playable. The ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was 36% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 19% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB. Finally, in Cyberpunk 2077 it also took DLSS to make it playable with ray tracing. The ZOTAC GAMING RTX 4060 was 96% faster than the Radeon RX 7600 and 15% faster than the RTX 3060 12GB.

DLSS

As you can see from many of the results while gaming, DLSS can make a large impact on the gameplay experience. It can also allow intense settings like ray tracing to be very playable at 1080p in the most demanding games. We saw substantial performance uplifts using DLSS, and compared to FSR it also looked better at lower resolutions like 1080p. When you combine the new feature of DLSS 3 Frame Generation, it can further enhance the framerate in ways never seen before in games.

Summary

In our testing, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition was good competition for the Radeon RX 7600, though it is priced higher. It does provide a big boost to ray tracing performance. Most importantly, if you focus on what is a playable experience for gaming you will find the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition allows playable framerates at 1080p in games at high to ultra settings. It has the oomph for such things, our benchmarks show that. It can also allow playable ray tracing in games, and for the ones that are too demanding DLSS or even DLSS 3 Frame Generation can make that playable at 1080p.

Overall, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition did provide around an 8% performance improvement from overclocking. It isn’t the highest overclock we’ve experienced on a GeForce RTX 4060, and it wasn’t the coolest running RTX 4060 temperature either, but it did give us a decent boost in real-world gaming performance, especially with the memory overclock. While the default temperatures and behavior were just fine, the card did GPU boost well, some fine tuning with a fan curve can further improve the experience. Thankfully there is full control over this with the FireStorm software, and enthusiasts will be able to tweak it to a more fine-tuned precision.

Final Points

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition brings some uniqueness to enthusiasts, and gamers looking for an interesting aesthetic. With the all-white shroud and backplate, the look is striking and should look good in a themed build. The only thing missing is a white PCB. In addition, the small compact size of the video card means it should fit in many different case sizes all the way down to small form factor very easily. It will bring GeForce RTX 4060 Ada Lovelace performance and features to smaller builds, allowing more people to use it.

Perhaps the one caveat to the video card is its price, at $329.99 it steps over the $299 MSRP for the GeForce RTX 4060. The GeForce RTX 4060 is priced well at $299, but stepping over that mark puts it into a more challenging price segment for this level of performance. When the price steps up, you have to offer something compelling. The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition provides a small factory overclock, and a unique aesthetic. That overclock is minor, and we’ve seen a higher factory overclock on RTX 4060, we’ve also seen beefier cooling solutions offered on RTX 4060 as well.

At the end of the day, these small differences don’t change the gameplay experience, the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition performs similarly to other RTX 4060 testing, and results in the same gameplay experience and performance. You just have to decide if you think the price is worth it. If you are in the market for a GeForce RTX 4060-based video card and need a compact video card that will fit well in any case, give a unique aesthetic and provide a great gameplay experience at 1080p then this is what the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC White Edition will deliver.
