Time for an upgrade? A growing number of Netflix users have taken to social media and home theater forums to complain about how the streaming service is no longer working on some of the older devices that they own. Such devices would include various Blu-ray players and TVs from Samsung and other manufacturers, as well as the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV, according to a few users who have shared their experiences on r/netflix. Sony gave up on the PS Vita in 2019, while the PS TV was also dropped in 2015. An official list of devices that are compatible with Netflix can be found here.

Older Devices Reportedly Affected

  • Hitachi TVs
  • Panasonic TVs
  • PlayStation TV
  • PlayStation Vita
  • Samsung Blu-ray players
  • Samsung TVs
  • Sony TVs

“I got this message today on my old (from 2014) Panasonic 32″ TV,” said one poster. “I have a Roku, that I use as well so I’m fine but I quite like the old simple Netflix app on the TV (the only app still working on the platform). Doesn’t auto play anything just lines up the titles like an old Blockbuster rental shelf for you to pick I knew they’d end up discontinuing it at some point.”

“I got the same message on a Vizio tv a month ago,” mentioned another. “Today is the 16th and it won’t play anything from Netflix. My tv is new enough that it has a Netflix button on the remote. If it’s not fixed Friday will be my last day with shitflix.”

“I wonder if Netflix actually thinks people will go out and get a new TV to keep watching it, as opposed to just ending their subscription as we plan to do,” another said.
