Test Setup
Note that for this testing we are using an Intel Core i7-14700K CPU and Intel Z790 Platform with DDR5 7200MT/s. We have enabled PCI-Express Resizable BAR in the motherboard BIOS. We are using a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro with the latest Windows Updates, including the 22H2 Fall 2022 update. We have the latest drivers installed. We are using the “Balanced” power profile in Windows Settings. Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is ENABLED in Windows. VBS is DISABLED and Game Mode is ENABLED. For NVIDIA GeForce drivers we are using NVIDIA-provided GeForce 545.92 which has Game Day support for Alan Wake 2 for best performance.
Manual Run-Through
For our manual run-through in Alan Wake 2, we are performing a custom run-through in the Return 1: Invitation portion of the game. We are walking from the start of this area, in a custom walk toward a cabin and down to the water, the run-through takes 4 minutes. This takes us through an outdoor forested environment. Compared to other parts of the game, such as in the town, the performance in this area is much lower, and so far has been the most demanding we have found, but we haven’t played the entire game, it is at least more demanding than other areas of the game we experienced so it should be a good test for the GPU.
