Is it possible for Bill Murray to look any more bored and tired than he did in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife?
Could be, as Sony Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for its next Ghostbusters film, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, confirming the return of all of the surviving Ghostbusters (RIP, Harold Ramis/Spengler), including what appears to be a Murray who probably needed some level of convincing to be there.
The trailer, which goes on for two minutes, starts off with a big tidal wave, and while Jason Statham doesn’t show up to save anyone from what could be a cool scene with a giant ghost shark, it can confirm that the Ghostbusters will be back where they belong: New York, including what is clearly the original firehouse.
Here’s a synopsis of the new Ghostbusters film from Sony, which marks the fourth installment of the series, coming nearly four decades after Ivan Reitman’s original:
In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
Joining the original Ghostbusters in the new film are Splengler’s daughter, Callie, who’s played by Carrie Coon, as well as his grandkids, Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trever (Finn Wolfhard), all of whom were introduced in the 2021 film.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is out on March 29, 2024.
