Rockstar Games has announced that it will be releasing the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI in early December.

Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, shared the news in a letter to fans today, explaining how the trailer would be dropping on the very same month that Rockstar will celebrate its 25th anniversary:

In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution.

We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.

Houser goes on to say that Rockstar will be sharing such experiences with fans for many more years to come, although that seems like a given, with GTA V being the second best-selling game of all time, sitting at over 180 million copies sold:

Thanks to the incredible support of our players worldwide, we have had the opportunity to create games we are truly passionate about — without you, none of this would be possible, and we are so grateful to all of you for sharing this journey with us.

News of the GTA VI announcement was originally broken by Bloomberg last night, whose sources were apparently right about Rockstar’s plan for a trailer in December.

And while Rockstar hasn’t said anything about what the trailer might include, leaks from last year would suggest that players will be introduced to a new city in the form of a fictional Miami, a location that harkens back to 2002’s GTA: Vice City.

Those leaks also revealed that there would be two playable protagonists, including a female character—a first for the series.

Take-Two shares rose to a high of $149.43 in trading before New York exchanges opened on Wednesday thanks to the news.
