Why does AMD love to jump around with its naming conventions so much?

No idea, but it seems red team can’t break the habit, as a Chiphell poster has shared a purported promo sheet that suggests the next mainline series of Ryzen desktop processors may not be a direct follow-up to the current family—or, at least, in name.

According to the ad, Dell and Alienware are currently prepping yet another pre-built system, but this one will be special, in that it’ll include what is apparently an “AMD Ryzen 9000 Series” processor.

Typo? Perhaps, but AMD has had fun with this sort of thing before, having launched Ryzen 3000 Series (Zen 2) desktop CPUs back in 2019 but following up on those with the Ryzen 5000 Series (Zen 3), leaving the 4000 Series name for APUs and other select chips.

SupremeMiner, who shared the photo, claimed that the ad was sent directly by Alienware to old customers as a way of encouraging them to upgrade their machines, which are now apparently outdated.

“After the 7000 series, is there no 8000 series anymore? Will it go directly to the 9000 series?,” the user pondered.
