Guys, how do we sell more of a years-old processor with original Zen cores? Refresh its packaging!

Per a tweet from the @AnhPhuH account, AMD has decided to update its packaging for the Athlon 3000G, a four-year-old processor from the company that, while not particularly mind-blowing for today’s demanding games, remains a suitable candidate for those who are looking for an AMD CPU to throw into a budget system.

According to the gallery that Phu shared, the new package features a big version of AMD’s arrow insignia, as well as a shot of its included fan.

This also happens to be the Dali version of the CPU (OPN YD3000C6FHBOX), a derivative of the original Raven Ridge version (YD3000C6FBBOX) that is said to only include support for Microsoft’s latest and greatest OS, Windows 11:

It doesn’t look like AMD has updated its website with the new packaging yet, but per its specs page, the Athlon 3000G is an unlocked AM4 APU that features two cores, four threads, a base clock of 3.5 GHz, and Radeon graphics—or, more specifically, a Radeon Vega 3 with three graphics cores and a graphics frequency of 1,100 MHz.

The default TDP of the Athlon 3000G is also listed as 35 watts, which, again, could make it an adequate choice for a casual server or other modest setup.

AMD launched the original Athlon 3000G on November 19, 2019, with a $49.99 MSRP.

Other processors that belong to the 14-nanometer, Zen-based “Raven Ridge” family include the Athlon Pro 200GE, Athlon 200GE, Athlon 220GE ,and Athlon 240GE, which launched at the tail end of 2018.
