Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players may want to slow their web-slinging a bit, as a new report has suggested that Insomniac’s next superhero game won’t be out any time soon.

Per DanielRPK, an insider who’s known for their scoops on Marvel TV shows and movies, Wolverine isn’t expected to come out until 2025, opening up the possibility that the PS5 exclusive may not release until two full years after Insomniac’s latest hit, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which came out on October 20, 2023.

DanielRPK has also reportedly claimed that the new Wolverine game from Insomniac will be bloodier than its Spider-Man games, which would make sense, with the character having claws and all. The game is also expected to include the fictional island of Madripoor, as hinted in Insomniac’s announcement teaser:

…[It’s] a much darker and more violent game than the studio’s Spider-Man titles. Additionally, the tipster has said it will feature Madripoor, Marvel’s fictional island often associated with X-Men stories (which popped up in the MCU relatively recently in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series).

Insomniac revealed that it was developing a Wolverine game in September 2021, with Ryan Schneider, Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations at the developer, sharing the following about its next superhero game:

Marvel’s Wolverine is a standalone game being directed by Brian Horton (creative director) and Cameron Christian (game director), who recently led the creative efforts on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a game we’re extremely proud of at Insomniac. In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit. Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.

Being able to build a new, original universe with Spider-Man and now Wolverine is such an honor for so many of us at Insomniac Games. A huge thanks to our Sony Interactive Entertainment family for giving us the opportunity to develop these games, Marvel for trusting us with characters that mean so much to so many people, and of course, our fans for continuing to believe in us.

GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb claimed earlier this year that Wolverine could launch as early as next autumn, although DanielRPK
