Ready to hear Moby’s “Extreme Ways” on the big screen again?

Deadline has learned that Universal Pictures is currently developing another Jason Bourne movie, and there’s a good chance that it will be directed by Edward Berger, the director behind All Quiet on the Western Front—a World War I epic that was released in 2022 and did quite well at this year’s Academy Awards.

There’s a big problem, though, in that Matt Damon, who played Bourne in all of the existing movies (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum, Jason Bourne), hasn’t been approached yet, and even if he was, it’s unclear whether he would sign on, as the actor would supposedly be looking for more than a simple payday:

…Berger would be the only attachment at this time. No other talent is on board, but insiders add that Matt Damon — who starred as Bourne in four of the five films — would be approached first to return in the iconic role once a script is finished. As always, everything has to be executed perfectly for Damon to even consider coming back to the franchise, and that starts with a great script and story. So as of right now no commitment from him until all of that is in place.

Damon most recently played Bourne in the 2016 film that reunited him with director Paul Greengrass, while the one before that, The Bourne Legacy, had less to do with Bourne and more to do with Aaron Cross, another operative, played by Jeremy Renner.

The Bourne Legacy made $276 million at the worldwide box office, while Jason Bourne made $414 million, according to Box Office Mojo’s numbers.

Damon’s most recent acting gig was for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, where he stars as Leslie Groves, the real-life officer behind the Manhattan Project.

Oppenheimer is out today on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and other formats.
