Time for Best Buy to make Blu-ray a key part of its business again?
Per The Digital Bits’ Bill Hunt, Universal has delivered a statement revealing that the 4K UHD Blu-ray version of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster, has been selling extremely well since its release on November 21, so well, in fact, that it’s already out of stock at what sounds like every major retailer.
Here’s the statement from Universal, which not only said that it will be pressing more discs ASAP, but that 4K UHD Blu-ray is the way to go for those who want to watch Nolan’s atomic bomb go off in the highest visual quality:
We are happy so many consumers are embracing OPPENHEIMER in 4K Ultra HD and understand that some retailers may currently be out of stock. Universal is working to replenish those retailers quickly so fans can watch the film at home in the best picture quality possible.

Listings that can be found on eBay at the time of this writing would suggest that Oppenheimer is, in fact, flying off the shelves, with at least one scalper trying to sell copies of Oppenheimer’s SteelBook, which is available exclusively through Best Buy, for $199.69.
According to the listing, 28 copies have already been sold, suggesting a nice haul of over $5K for a disc that normally retails for $32.99.
“Physical media. Don’t call it a come back. It’s been here for years,” said one person in response to Universal’s statement.
“I hope Oppenheimer being constantly sold out everywhere on 4k and Blu Ray tells Best Buy their decision to stop selling physical movies is fucking stupid,” said another.
