Ready to pay more for Resident Evil 9, Devil May Cry 6, or Street Fighter 7?

Capcom has opened up pre-orders for Dragon’s Dogma 2, revealing that the new single-player, narrative-driven action RPG will be priced at $69.99—$10 higher than what the company has typically been charging for its AAA games, including Street Fighter 6, which launched for $59.99 in June 2023.

While Capcom hasn’t delivered any official statement on what is clearly a higher price point, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, Capcom’s president, did share his thoughts in September about how game prices are “too low,” a strong indication that $69.99 is the price that the company will be charging going forward for its premium titles.

“Personally, I feel that game prices are too low,” Tsujimoto said, per a report from Nikkei. “Development costs are around 100 times higher than they were in the days of the Famicom (NES), but the price of software hasn’t risen so much.”

“There is also a need to raise wages in order to attract talented people. Given that wages are rising across the industry as a whole, I think the option of raising unit prices is a healthy form of business.”

Here’s a description for Dragon’s Dogma 2, which is also available for $79.99 as part of a Deluxe Edition that includes custom sounds and more:

Dragon’s Dogma is a single player, narrative driven action-RPG series that challenges the players to choose their own experience – from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations and more. Now, in this long-awaited sequel, the deep, explorable fantasy world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 awaits.

On your journey, you’ll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure.

All of these elements are elevated further through physics technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the latest in graphics, to create a truly immersive fantasy world in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Those who pre-order the standard version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 will get a set of special items called the Superior Weapons Quartet, while those who pre-order the deluxe version can get the very same along with a ring called the Ring of Assurance.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an enhanced version of the game that came out in 2016, is available for just $4.79 on Steam as part of a promotion that will run until December 12.
