Rockstar Games has released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, confirming that the new game will be released in 2025.

According to the 1:30 minute trailer, which Rockstar was forced to release early due to yet another leak, GTA VI is set to introduce a new pair of playable protagonists, including the franchise’s very first female lead, Lucia.

The new game will also transport players to the state of Leonida and its modernized version of Vice City, one that appears to include all of the usual Floridian staples, including beaches, alligators, and twerking:

And while platforms aren’t listed in Rockstar’s GTA VI trailer, Take-Two has confirmed that the game is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025, with a PC version coming years later, if GTA V’s history serves as any indication.

At the very, very earliest, GTA VI will be releasing 11 years after the previous installment, which originally launched for the now-ancient PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in September 2013.

During the lead up to Rockstar’s announcement, some GTA fans seemed to think that the sixth game wouldn’t be out until 2028:

And while that didn’t turn out to be the case, GTA VII is already trending ahead of its inevitable release, possibly in 2037 for PS7 and Xbox Series XXX:

Here’s what Take-Two had to say about the GTA series in its press release, which points out the last game’s incredible sales performance, hinting at more milestones to come:

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in December, Rockstar Games pioneered the open-world genre of video games with the launch of Grand Theft Auto III in 2001. With each successive blockbuster entry in the series including Grand Theft: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto has become one of the biggest selling, most critically acclaimed and influential properties in all of modern entertainment. The most recent iteration in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, has sold over 190 million units to date. Rockstar Games’ blockbuster western series, Red Dead Redemption has sold over 81 million units worldwide to date, with its most recent release, Red Dead Redemption 2, breaking new ground in fidelity and immersion.

“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
