Danawa, a company based out of Seoul that offers online price comparisons to local shoppers, has shared new data that illustrates how B650 motherboards have been gaining a lot of traction in the country over recent months, so much so that they now represent over 30% of AMD’s total motherboard sales in the country.

Here’s the machine-translated word from the author, who explains that while AMD’s older B550 platform has been very popular, it has now been surpassed by its AM5 counterpart:

As of January 2023, the market share is expected to reach 48%. However, after the introduction of the B650, market share fell rapidly every month, as if riding a roller coaster. On the other hand, B650 rose to 34.43% of AMD’s total motherboard sales share as of November 2023. It’s number 1. At this point, it is no exaggeration to say that it has taken the lead among AMD motherboards.

This is followed by another chart that shows how the prices of B650 motherboards have been falling over the past year in South Korea, from ~316,000 won to, more recently, ~223,000 won, something that might explain the increasing appeal of these boards in the country:

The average price of the B650 was quite high at around 310,000 won a year ago, but the price has now dropped by about 29% to around 220,000 won. The difference in price is a whopping 92,562 won. On the other hand, the B550 fell by 22%, the A520 by 8%, and the A320 by 16%. The B550 also dropped a lot, but it was not particularly dramatic compared to the B650, where the first digit changed from 3 to early 2.

Last but not least is a chart that shows how GIGABYTE is now leading in motherboard sales, beating out competitors that include ASUS and MSI:

Initially, ASUS’s market share was very high following MSI’s, but currently, Gigabyte’s market share reaches 50.28%. It has almost conquered the market. In particular, the flagship product, Gigabyte B650M K, is priced in the mid to late 100,000 won range, making it extremely affordable.

GIGABYTE’s listing for the B650M K, which appears to be available for as low as $119.99 at the time of this writing, can be found here.

And while these trends appear to be exclusive to South Korea, the TechEpiphany account has shared some of its own data, offering a glimpse at how AMD has been faring among European customers as of late.

According to AMD, the B650 and B650E motherboards are geared toward mainstream and performance users, respectively, with the former offering support for DDR5 memory, as well as optional PCIe 5.0 support.
