David Mcafee, AMD’s Corporate VP and GM of the Client Channel Business, has confirmed in a new interview with Overclockers UK that AMD is still planning on supporting Socket AM5 through 2025, as originally promised in its Ryzen 7000 Series marketing and other promotional materials.

Here’s a transcript of that portion of the interview, where Mcafee says AMD will be extending support even further, explaining that socket changes aren’t to be taken lightly and how his company wants to support AM5 for as long as it possibly can:

Overclockers UK: Is there an update on AM5 socket support, or does the original statement from AMD to continue support through 2025, still stand?

David Mcafee: It absolutely still stands. I think that we certainly recognize that the longevity of the AM4 platforms was one of the biggest reasons that led to the success of Ryzen, and as we think about the future, 2025 and beyond, that decision to move to a next generation of socket, is one that’s going to be really thought through very, very carefully. We know the impact that moving to a new socket brings, and we want to stay on AM5 as long as we possibly can. We are firmly committed to 2025 and beyond, and we’ll see how long that promise lasts beyond 2025.
