Konami is reportedly working on another remake in the Metal Gear Solid franchise and this time the first installment is getting the upgrade. At this point, it’s no secret that the third game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is getting the remake treatment to which Konami has added the delta symbol to indicating the newer version. It is now titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, and could arrive sometime in 2024. Konami appears to be following the trend seen with Capcom and its Resident Evil remakes in that it isn’t approaching the franchise in order but at least the first game wasn’t far off in the pipeline. Spanish gaming site, Areajugones, has reported they’ve got inside information that Konami is reportedly working on doing a remake of the first game and that it will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Per Areajugones (machine translated):

  • The game has been in development for several years.
  • This is the project that Konami will put all its efforts into after Metal Gear Solid Delta.
  • Metal Gear Solid Remake would be a game that would be released only on PS5, so like Demon’s Souls, it would not come to PS4.
  • There is no information about the studio that is working on it or its release date.

Areajugones notes how its inside source previously revealed the God of War Ragnarok DLC long before the official announcement was made so this leak may also be valid. If true it would indicate that Konami has continued plans for the franchise after also recently releasing its Master Collection Vol. 1 which bundled the first three games together. It’s also possible that, if true, the first game would likely be getting remade in Unreal Engine 5 just like what has been done for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater and PlayStation 5 owners could be in for a treat with both games.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
