Samsung Display has announced that it has begun full-scale mass production of OLED screens for the Razer Blade 16, a 16-inch gaming laptop from the “For Gamers, By Gamers” company that is apparently the first to feature a 240 Hz QHD OLED display.

Here’s what Samsung had to say about the Razer Blade 16 in its press release, which confirms a 0.2-millisecond response time, as well as what sounds like minimal motion blur:

Razer Blade 16 — the latest offering from Razer, a premium gaming laptop manufacturer — is a premium gaming laptop with a 240Hz high refresh rate, 0.2ms response time and QHD+ (2560×1600) resolution.

The highly anticipated Razer Blade 16 recently earned the ClearMR (Clear Motion Ratio Compliance Test Specification) 11000 certification by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). ClearMR is a new picture quality standard introduced by VESA in 2022 and is used as an indicator to judge the motion blur performance of displays in laptops, monitors and TVs.

VESA’s picture quality rating, from ClearMR 3000 to 13000, quantifies the ratio of sharp to blurry pixels when playing a video with fast screen transitions. The higher the number, the less motion blur and the sharper the picture. Razer Blade 16’s rating of ClearMR 11000 is the highest rating for a laptop to date.

“With the Razer Blade 16 achieving the highest ClearMR 11000 rating, Samsung OLED’s outstanding picture quality has once again been recognized. We will continue to expand consumer choices and drive new trends in the notebook market based on the differentiated image quality and performance of Samsung OLED,” said Hojung Lee, Head of Product Planning Team for Small and Medium-sized Display Division at Samsung Display.

“The unparalleled performance of the new Razer Blade 16 laptop marries seamlessly with Samsung’s world-class OLED display technology,” said Travis Furst, Head of the Notebook and Accessories Division at Razer. “With the blisteringly fast 0.2ms response time and superior color accuracy that is not only Calman-verified but also custom-tuned at our factory, gamers and creators can experience a new level of graphic fidelity wherever they go.”

According to a separate press release from Razer that has been shared online, Razer is also ready to showcase the Razer Blade 18, a gaming laptop that features the world’s first 4K 165 Hz 18-inch display:

  • Ultra-High Resolution: 4K clarity brings unparalleled detail and sharpness to larger screens. This additional real estate gives gamers a more immersive experience and creators the real estate to comfortably fine-tune every minute detail.
  • High Refresh Rate: A 165Hz refresh rate ensures that gameplay is smooth and fluid. This smoothness not only improves the gaming experience but the overall feel when browsing or performing everyday tasks.
  • 3ms Response Time & NVIDIA G-Sync Support: Say goodbye to screen tearing thanks to NVIDIA G-Sync, coupled with a 3ms response time games have never felt better.
  • Up to 100% DCI-P3 Color Space: Covering 25% more color space than the standard sRGB color space allows for more vibrant images and experiences the way their creators intended.

“Both the Razer Blade 16 and Blade 18 displays are Calman Verified, ensuring the most accurate color right out of the box. Each panel undergoes individual factory calibration, delivering DCI-P3 100% color gamut for true-to-life imagery, as the creators intended. Furthermore, seamlessly integrated high-grade CNC aluminum unibody construction, the 16:10 aspect ratio, up to 89% screen-to-body ratio, and the ultra-thin bezels create an immersive viewing experience that is as visually stunning as it is durable,” Razer said.
