AMD’s next-generation Ryzen processors with Zen 5 cores are moving along nicely, according to the Kepler_L2 account, which reported today that “Granite Ridge”—the successor to the current Ryzen 7000 Series—is already production. According to the latest roadmaps from AMD, these processors are expected to be released before the end of 2024.
Highlights:
- Coming in 2024
- Zen 5 cores
- Compatibility with AM5 and existing 600 Series motherboards
- Speculation would suggest that these could be released under the Ryzen 9000 Series
- Expected to compete with Intel’s Arrow Lake-S desktop CPUs
- Zen 5 engineering samples were already spotted as early as last summer
Features touted by AMD:
- New grounds-up microarchitecture
- Enhanced performance and efficiency
- Re-pipelined front-end and wide issue

note that " in mass production " doesn't necessarily mean imminent release. tsmc's newer production processes can mean 2 to 5 months to produce a batch of chips and another month for packaging and testing. resulting in as much as 6 months from start of production to shipping ..

The company has committed to a 2025+ plan for its AM5 socket and as we have seen on the AM4 platform, AMD supports its desktop platforms more than Intel with a very strong 7-year+ dedication to its previous platform. The Zen 5 core architecture will also be coming to the next-gen Ryzen laptop family codenamed Strix Point which is also scheduled for a later 2025 CPU release plan.
