Frost Giant Studios has announced that a demo for Stormgate, its “next-gen RTS game set in a new science fantasy universe,” is now available for download on Steam as part of the platform’s Next Fest demo event. This title is notable in that it was developed in part by some ex-Blizzard staff, namely, those who worked on two of the greatest RTS games of all time (i.e., Warcraft III and StarCraft II).

Demo contents/features:

  • Two playable factions (still in development) with a third faction coming to a future playtest
  • Full access to the current beta playtest, including two main game modes:
    • 3P Co-op vs. AI – Command powerful heroes alongside your friends. Challenges yourselves in our increasingly difficult co-op Map Wreck Havoc.
    • Pure Competitive 1v1 – No heroes, all skill. Now with matchmaking and third party leaderboards.
    • Custom Lobbies – Invite a friend to play privately or play solo against AI.

NVIDIA technologies include:

  • DLSS 2
  • DLSS 3

NVIDIA noted:

Developed by RTS veterans, a Kickstarter campaign concluded last week with over $2.2 million pledged, making it the top gaming Kickstarter of 2023, and 2024 to date. With such interest, Stormgate is primed to be the year’s next hit game, and you can already get the definitive experience in the demo thanks to the inclusion of DLSS 3.

Game description:

Explore an ever-evolving story through thrilling campaign missions where science fiction and fantasy collide—solo or cooperatively. Battle opponents around the world on our competitive 1v1 ladder. Team up with your friends to challenge the AI in cooperative modes. Get your hands dirty in the editor to build the game of your dreams.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5, Stormgate will support high-resolution HD visuals in 4K and hundreds of units in epic, large-scale wars across a variety of maps and tilesets. The user interface is designed to make RTS more approachable by streamlining inputs, automatically assigning units to control groups, and enhancing gameplay. We’ve lowered the skill floor while keeping the ceiling as high as you want to climb.
