Microsoft is planning to release at least one more generation of video game consoles despite rampant rumors of the Xbox brand going the way of Sega and its legendary Dreamcast, according to a recent episode of the XNC Podcast with hosts @colteastwood and @Middleagegameg. Xbox will reportedly be unveiling at least two new systems in around two years’ time, including a handheld, portable “hybrid” device that sounds partially inspired by the Nintendo Switch.

Next-gen Xbox rumors:

  • Two SKUs/models
  • Targeting “late 2026”

First rumored console:

  • “Expensive” model
  • A traditional console, meant to replace the Xbox Series X

Second rumored console:

  • “Cheaper” hybrid model
  • Dockable handheld, similar to the Nintendo Switch
  • Developed by the Microsoft Surface team
  • Features built-in controls, touch screen
  • Supports cloud gaming
  • Can run Xbox games natively
