Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics’ restoration of the original Lara Croft adventures that started it all, may offend some players, according to a message that shows up at the beginning of the new game that’s out today on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Crystal Dynamics didn’t elaborate on what it meant by “offensive depictions,” but speculation has suggested that the “inexcusable” content that was kept involve South Pacific islanders, who are implied to be cannibals in the third game from 1998.

The message reads:

The games in this collection contain offensive depictions of people and cultures rooted in racial and ethnic prejudices. These stereotypes are deeply harmful, inexcusable, and do not align with our values at Crystal Dynamics.

Rather than removing this content, we have chosen to present it here in its original form, unaltered, in the hopes that we may acknowledge its harmful impact and learn from it.
