The Star Wars Jedi actor attended a panel where he was asked about the possibility of taking on the role in a film or television project. Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham, Paradise Highway) has voiced Cal Kestis in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and has managed to create such a memorable character that fans are continually asking to see him outside of the realm of videogames. However, the Star Wars Jedi actor previously said in past interviews that he was interested in the idea of a live-action portrayal but at the time he wanted to focus on Cal’s story arc in the video games and now it seems that perhaps we are getting closer to a timeframe where it might happen.

Cameron Monaghan was part of a panel at FanExpo Vancouver 2024 where he was asked if he would play Cal Kestis in a live-action project. Surprisingly, this time, Monaghan didn’t shoot down the idea but shared reservations about how such a project would have to be executed. Essentially, as the actor puts it, a live-action appearance would have to make sense.

Per The Direct:

“It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there. I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense. But in the right context then, yeah, absolutely.”

It’s no secret that Respawn Entertainment is working on a third Star Wars Jedi game. Monaghan attended another event back in September 2023 where he confirmed as much but it sounded like the game was in the early stages. This was also right after Stig Asmussen, the director of both games, had announced he was leaving Respawn and EA but also said that he’d always envisioned the Star Wars Jedi games as a trilogy.

Meanwhile, Disney has more or less wrapped up most of its current Star Wars live-action shows and is focusing on a number of movie projects. None of which are said to feature Cal Kestis, and if Disney wants to snag Cameron for the part, they would have to make sure the character wasn’t just shoehorned into a scene as a fan service or otherwise pointless cameo.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
