Grand Theft Auto VI, the next mainline installment of Rockstar Games’ best-selling action-adventure series, will be released on February 18, 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to two industry insiders, including the one who got the release date of the announcement trailer from back in December right. Complementing the news is the claim that the PS5 Pro won’t be powerful enough to run GTA VI at 60 FPS, per Digital Foundry founder Richard Leadbetter, who pointed out during yesterday’s spec analysis that the new system only delivers 10% faster clocks versus the current model.

The person who correctly predicted everything about the reveal trailer said that GTA 6 will release in Q1 of 2025, likely January/February.

Release dates are always volatile, but this plus Jason Schreier’s recent report has me convinced the game is releasing early next year. pic.twitter.com/ql5Oe5EyxQ
Leadbetter’s musings:
- “…the games that are targeting 30 FPS right now are not going to be targeting 60 FPS per second on PS5 Pro if they’re CPU limited.”
- “…the…conjectures…that this is going to be a great box for GTA VI, ‘uh, we’ll be able to run that at 60 FPS’…”
- “…unless there’s some magical CPU stuff being done by Rockstar, I suggest that’s not going to happen.”
- “10% on clocks isn’t really going to do much at all…it will help your worst possible frame rates when you’re CPU limited, but it’s not a game changer.”
