Ascendant Studios is celebrating its one-year anniversary since announcing Immortals of Aveum by adding new features to all platforms. Patch 1.0.6.3 rolled out for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S yesterday adding support for HDR (high dynamic range) to the current-gen consoles. The developers have said that the PC version will receive HDR support in a future update. HDR will allow players to experience improved visuals with a wider, more vibrant range of colors on display with HDR features.

Per Patch 1.0.6.3 notes:

“We’re thrilled to begin rolling out HDR support in Immortals of Aveum™! HDR arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with Patch 1.0.6.3 that releases on April 2, 2024. HDR support on PC will follow soon after, and we’ll have more details on the PC release in the coming weeks.

In HDR, Aveum’s stunning environments, unfettered magic, and battle-hardened denizens take on new life with deeper shadows, brighter highlights, and more vibrant colors. Experience a richer, more visually captivating journey through Aveum as you harness your power to become an elite battlemage.”

The developers have added that they are working with their partners at Enduring Games to add AMD’s FSR 3 frame generation technology to consoles as well. They have stated this will be the first game to feature AMD’s technology on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, although it had previously been announced the feature was expected to arrive on consoles this past fall along with Forspoken).

Per HDR and AMD FSR 3 Console Support Announcement:

“I work with wizards,” said Adam Creighton, Studio Head for Enduring Games. “At EG, we are about doing hard things that are not yet generally available for gamers or game developers. Since we work with AMD and we work with Ascendant, Enduring Games was in a unique place to enhance our FSR 3 work for PC, and bring the tech to consoles for the first time, all for fans of Immortals of Aveum.”

Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer) notes that the PC version already supports AMD FSR 3 since, unlike NVIDIA DLSS 3 frame gen technology, it doesn’t need to be implemented by developers. It is also noted that while AMD has rolled out its own updates for the feature the PC version does not currently support VRR (variable refresh rate) and it is hoped the Patch 1.0.6.4 will add that for both consoles and PC. Playstation 5 owners can presently play Immortals of Aveum for free via PlayStation Plus.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
