EA has responded to this morning’s rumors about a Dead Space 2 remake, claiming that there’s “no validity” to Jeff Grubb’s claims about how EA Motive had been developing the game but ended up canceling it due to the “lackluster” sales of its 2023 remake effort. Dead Space was one of the best-selling games of January 2023, according to a list of top sellers that Circana’s Mat Piscatella shared the following month.
Grubb had claimed:
- “…they were working on Dead Space 2…and they are no longer working on it.”
- “…it is on the shelf…because the first game had lackluster sales…that’s how it was phrased to me.”
- “…if you were looking forward to Dead Space 2…it’s bad news…it’s just bad news…”
- “…does this mean it never happens? I don’t know if that’s the case, but as it stands right now…”
- “…it was in the concept phase, I believe…something like that…pre-production…but that work has been put on the shelf.”

IGN claims to have gotten the quote from an EA spokesperson:
EA has denied reports that a Dead Space 2 remake was in development before being canceled, with a spokesperson telling IGN, “We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.” EA’s comments follow reports from Jeff Grubb, who claimed that EA Motive was working on concepts for Dead Space 2, but that it was ultimately shelved due to lackluster sales of the previous release. However, IGN understands that the Dead Space 2 remake wasn’t one that EA considered.
