The next Battlefield game is in deep development, and while DICE and the other teams at EA haven’t shared its official title and setting yet, players can expect the first-person shooter to be driven largely by live services, similar to what can be found in the current Battlefield 2042 experience, according to new statements that EA CEO Andrew Wilson made to participants during an earnings call held this week. Wilson called the new Battlefield “another tremendous live service” title in his segment about EA’s live service efforts, explaining that this is one of the areas that makes EA special in the video game market place.

Wilson said:

  • “…one of the great differentiators of our company is…the breadth of our live services.”
  • “We had Madden, again, a live service that grew and reached record levels of revenue. We had our biggest EA SPORTS year, I would argue that EA SPORTS may be one of the greatest global multi-sport media brands in the world…”
  • “We had double-digit growth in the community on the Sims, which again targets a very, very different demographic of players.”
  • “…[and] I’ve just spent a whole bunch of time with the collective Battlefield team, playing what they’re building and it is going to be another tremendous live service.”

EA revealed that Season 7 would be the final season for Battlefield 2042 last month:

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.
