Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest installment of the fantasy RPG series from BioWare, is not the fourthquel that fans of the franchise have been waiting for for over decade, according to player response spawned by a new reveal trailer that premiered during yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase, much of which appears to be negative. One of the major complaints seems to be with the project’s art direction; some say that it looks like a Fortnite game.
YouTube like/dislike ratio:
- Dislikes: 18,000
Critics are saying:
- “ok, but where Dragon Age?”
- “Goodbye Dragon Age, you didn’t deserve having your corpse puppeted around like this.”
- “The tone feels off”
- “Why are the graphics so cartoonish and unserious?”
- “They have completely and officially destroyed the Dragon Age visual identity over chasing trends of Fortnite and Overwatch. I am insanely disappointed”
- “Something tells me this might be the last dragon age game”
- “Watch the original Dragon Age Origins trailer and then back to this. Man how they’ve fallen lol”
The reveal trailer:
BioWare on its new game:
After Dragon Age: Inquisition launched, the studio was given an incredible opportunity to explore, test, and validate a variety of gameplay concepts as we worked to determine what the next Dragon Age could look like. We brought everything to the table which, yes, even included a multiplayer concept. The time we spent experimenting and iterating gradually taught us a lot. This work, and the amazing support from EA, helped us re-focus on creating an incredible single player game, with all the choices, characters and world building you’d expect from us.

As a Wow and Borderlands player I'm not put off by the graphics, gameplay and story needs to be good though.

It's not the graphics that is offputting it's the clear intention of trying to mimic the style of a hero shooter / moba.
And the cringe "diverse" companions.
