Humble Games, a publishing arm of Humble Bundle that was created to support indie developers and continue the company’s mission to be a force for good in the industry and across the globe, is in major trouble, according to a post from an ex-employee that explains how the entirety of Humble Games was laid off this morning. A Plague Tale Requiem, Ghostrunner 2, and Starship Troopers: Terran Command headline the eight titles that are available to claim in July 2024 as part of the latest Humble Choice bundle.

Emilee Kieffer writes:

  • “Another year, another lay off! Today is mine and my entire team’s last day at Humble Games.”
  • “This team was genuinely the best team I’ve ever worked, we truly had something special. I wish I could save everyone and make my own studio with them, I have never felt so seen and so respected in my entire game career.”
  • “The game industry is volatile, it’s been inundated by people who only want exponential growth at the expense of making great games with great teams.”
  • “Billionaires and CEOs are making record profits at the expense of the employees who actually create the products. But I believe we have the power to create studios that benefit us as game developers and not people that only see us as money printing machines.”

I'm sad for them as well. I don't remember ever buying anything from them but wanted the best for them. They just never really had anything on sale that I didn't already have.

I was a Bundle subscriber for a long time, and I've purchased quite a bit from them. But yeah, their games studio was always kind of ... felt more like charity than anything. I hope the best for those developers and I also hope the rest of Humble continues on.
