The Ryzen 9000X3D Series, a new lineup of desktop processors that will combine the power of AMD’s new Zen 5 architecture with 3D V-Cache technology to deliver what will presumably be a new level of performance for gamers, creators, and other users, will sell like hot cakes whenever they are released, according to new comments that Japanese retailers have shared on the eve of the release of the Ryzen 9000 Series, including the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X, which are available beginning today for $449 and $649, respectively. The Ryzen 7 9700X, which has been available since August 8, is reportedly selling well in Japan, with some employees saying it offers the best balance in terms of specifications and price.
Retailers are saying (machine translation):
- “The Ryzen 7 9700X sold out on the first day, both in stores and online. We only had 10 units in stock, but I didn’t expect them to be sold out on the first day, so I was a little surprised. They will be restocked next week, but their popularity is likely to continue.”
- “Including the unreleased Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X, the Ryzen 7 9700X may be the one with the best balance of specs and price. It seems that many customers thought the same, and the Ryzen 7 9700X was sold out by the afternoon.”
- “I was wondering how the Ryzen 9000 series would do, but as expected, it sold well on the first day of sales. Although it was mostly the Ryzen 7 9700X, I think it’s fair to say that it’s off to a good start.”
- “The higher-end Ryzen 9 series is not available, but there is no excitement like before, with long lines before the store opens. The Ryzen 7 9700X has been selling quietly since the morning. Although it is expensive, the Ryzen 9 9950X (expected to be around 120,000 yen) is also likely to sell well in the first installment.”
- “The Ryzen 9000 series X3D that I am personally planning to purchase is probably my favorite. I’m sure there are many people waiting for it. I think it will be released within the year, but I have a feeling it will sell like hotcakes.”
- “Now that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has excellent gaming performance, is available at a great price, many users are wondering whether to buy it or the Ryzen 9000 series. If you are mainly using it for gaming, you should buy the Ryzen 7 7800X3D now or wait for the Ryzen 9000 series “X3D”.
- The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which has dropped in price, is popular, but the distributor’s stock is out. Since there is only so-called distribution stock, it may disappear from the market temporarily in the future. The price is also rising, so if you want it, you’d better buy it early.
- The higher-end Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X are likely not available for release this week. They are likely to arrive next week after the Obon holiday, so those who want them will have to be patient a little longer.
Some of AMD’s more recent X3D chips include:
AMD said of the 7000X3D Series in January 2023:
…the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D – [bring] the power of AMD 3D V-Cache technology to the Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processor lineup. Now, the ultimate processors for both gamers and creators comes packaged in a single chip.
These new Ryzen 7000X3D are the fastest gaming processors in the world. With up to 14% faster performance than the previous generation. The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors with 3D V-Cache technology will be available for Socket AM5 starting February 2023.

If the non X3D models are no faster than the 7000 series, is there any expectation X3D will be any faster? If it’s not faster, why expect strong sales?

Two points:
The 9000-series is faster, just not much in gaming. The productivity lead will push anyone with dual-use to the newer SKUs, and it's possible that things like AI acceleration and AVX512 could become more useful for gaming going forward. Basically, if price were the same, we'd all just get the 9000-series.
Then aside from the new cores, AMD has upped the packaging and appears to have made other improvements to deal with cooling. Therefore, while the non-X3D parts simply run cooler, the 9000X3D parts should actually have an advantage over the 7000X3D parts by virtue of being less clock-limited. This should increase performance in gaming a bit, but the bigger part would be that they shouldn't be much if any slower than the non-X3D parts.
Combined, and depending on how everything else shakes out, at least the 9800X3D and 9950X3D are expected to be good releases. Still to be seen if AMD can make the 9900X3D (dual six-CCD part with one six-CCD X3D die) attractive though.
X3D Hotcakes. Is that like the Adult's only special shapes section that you can find in some local candy stores?
Do actual hot cakes still sell like crazy? Has that ever actually been true? What even is a "hot cake"?

Hit up a night market in Asia, can get them filled with whatever aquatic delight you can imagine...

No McDonald's? They call their pancakes "hotcakes". My wife loves them for some reason.
