The Game Boy, the iconic handheld game console from Nintendo that has sold over 118 million units since its original launch in Japan on April 21, 1989, will be returning this year as part of a new collaboration with the LEGO Group, according to a teaser video and announcement that Nintendo shared through its official social media channels today.
This announcement comes four years and six months after LEGO announced the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Building Kit, a set that allowed grown-up Nintendo fans to create their own NES console with LEGO bricks, complemented by a 1980s-style LEGO television set.
“With authentic reproductions of the original console, controller and Game Pak cartridge, plus a retro-styled 1980s TV, the exclusive new LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System gives fans of Super Mario Bros. a way to recapture childhood magic,” reads a description for the set, which released in August 2020 for $269.99.
