The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D are perhaps the two most highly anticipated premium processors of 2025 for gaming and productivity. AMD officially announced its top-end X3D CPUs at CES 2025 and has largely been silent about them since but rumors continue to suggest that we might see them launched next month. Both processors are known to feature second-gen 3D V-cache located underneath their CCDs. AMD has also confirmed specifications for both processors in its press release from January.

Meanwhile pricing for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D has remained something of a mystery. Previously the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-core/32-thread processor was launched at $699.99 while the Ryzen 9 7900X3D 12-core/24-thread launched for $599. Both processors debuted in January 2024 and have seen a bit of a rollercoaster ride when it comes to their pricing. At one point the 7950X3D dropped to $464.99 this past July but has since risen to as high as ~$720. According to industry info leaker @momomo_us who spotted the price listings for the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D on Newegg, both X3D parts could be launching with identical MSRP to the previous generation at $699.99 and $599.99 respectively.

Aside from its flipped 3D V-cache technology, something else that is different with these upcoming top-tier processors is that both are said to, more or less, have matching clock rates to their non-X3D counterparts. It has yet to be confirmed if the CCD with access to the 3D V-cache for either part will have matching clock speeds. Recently an AMD exec stated that both processors should share similar gaming performance with the current king of gaming CPUs, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
