The Last of Us Part III, a third chapter of Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic, action-adventure video game series that would have presumably continued the story of Ellie Williams—the central character of the franchise who was last seen in a quest for revenge in 2020’s sequel installment—probably isn’t happening, according to new statements that writer and creative director Neil Druckmann has told Variety in a new interview regarding HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2.

Here’s what Druckmann said when the entertainment publication asked whether The Last of Us Part III might be coming:

“I was waiting for this question,” Druckmann says, sighing, when I bring up the prospect of a third game. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

Druckmann isn’t done with the franchise, however, as Craig Mazin has confirmed that he will be working alongside him to executive produce at least one more season of The Last of Us for HBO:

“I’ve been feeling scared lately about like, ‘Oh, yeah, I have to start thinking about Season 3,’” Mazin says. “I remember having this feeling when we were finishing Season 1, where I was like, ‘How the fuck are we going to top this?’ Now, of course, I’m like, ‘How the fuck are we going to top this?’”

“We here at Naughty Dog are thrilled to finally announce that The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on April 3, 2025,” the studio announced in December 2024.

“Originally released for the PlayStation 5 console earlier this year, Part II Remastered allows players to continue the acclaimed story of The Last of Us with a definitive version featuring the award-winning campaign, new modes, improved quality, and more.”

That's good news. The less Neil Druckmann garbage is out there, the better. From Crash Bandicoot 2 to Uncharted 3, Naughty Dog had nothing but awesome games... until TLoU Part 1 came out.

What's the issue with part1 suddenly? And part2 is also an awesome game if you can look past the controversial story choices. I'm on the fence about buying it again when it comes out on PC, because it was a fun game, probably the most fun, I've ever had on console outside of Gran Turismo.

That said I'm not interested in Part III as long as Druckmann is in charge. The fact that I like part 2 is not because of him, but despite of him. Hopefully when intergalactic flops, he will go away.
