Ubisoft has officially released the first trailer for its AC: IV remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, showcasing the game’s numerous improvements. Arriving on July 9th, the remake is said to support Dolby Atmos and ray tracing for a deeper, more immersive experience. Players will return to the Pirate waters of the Caribbean with visual improvements, new characters and stories, and more. The game has been rebuilt using the Anvil Engine and is promised to give modern audiences a chance to experience the game in a brand new way.

“A RENEWED AND ENHANCED EXPERIENCE

The iconic solo pirate adventure returns. Sail the Caribbean as Edward Kenway during the Golden Age of Piracy in this faithfully enhanced remake featuring stunning visuals, upgraded gameplay, and new content.”

– Ubisfot

While specific details regarding the new story and characters have yet to be revealed, it is at least now known that there will be three new officers joining Edward on his journeys. However, that’s not all, as there will also be new pets, a photo mode, and more.

“Building on top of the original story, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces exclusive new content. Familiar faces will return, with new storylines dedicated to fan-favorite characters such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Unexpected allies will also cross your path, as three officers join you on your journey as part of the main narrative. More surprises await, such as new sea shanties, pets, a photo mode, and more.”

– Ubisoft

There will be new story arcs, missions, and treasure to discover as well. The following trailer teases one such mission, the infamous Blackbeard’s treasure.

Ubisoft is launching Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it will be available via its store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Pre-orders get a  Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack, which includes an exclusive costume for Edward Kenway, a sword, and a pistol and there will be standard, deluxe, and collector’s editions available.

More details about this promising-looking remake can be found on its official page here, and the official announcement here.

I'll count myself lucky that I never completed it the first time around, partially because of all the grief Ubi put me through with my accounts (inactivity), not to mention the loathing of another launcher (which I'm mostly over now), so very much looking forwarding to this.

I like that heroic launcher manages all my launchers aside from Steam on CachyOS. Makes it less annoying. I have never finished it either despite over 70hrs played. I keep restarting then get side tracked. The traditional combat system feels so stale to me as well. It's why I am doing a crazy long play through of AC Odyssey at the moment. It is looking like it is going to be over 300hrs.

Watching the video, I am hoping youtube compression is responsible for the unimpressive visuals. As it does not look better than Odyssey to me. RTGI has its work cut out. The graphics of Odyssey are outstanding. Sunrise, Sunset, nights with the moon out, all provide some beautiful vistas.

One of the more in-depth coverage articles I've seen on this and might answer some questions.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
