Best Buy appears to be next in line to cash in on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI and is reportedly set to open pre-orders next week. It’s debatable how “collectible” a physical copy of GTA 6 will become, given what ought to be an epically-sized launch, but you never know, stranger things have happened. Neither Rockstar Games nor Take Two has said if physical copies will have actual discs or a digital download, but it will be interesting to see if the game actually fits onto a standard Blu-ray disc or if said physical media acts as an installer instead.
Anyhow, multiple reports have surfaced from individuals who’ve said they have received emails from Best Buy indicating that the retailer is planning to open pre-orders for physical copies beginning next week. Per VGC, YouTuber Frogboyx1Gaming stated he’d received an email from BB’s affiliate program that pre-ordering would become available from May 18 to 21, and affiliates would receive 5% per unit sold they’ve linked to. VGC has since confirmed that other affiliates have received similar emails.
Meanwhile, this news has sparked rumors that a new trailer could be forthcoming, which wouldn’t be unheard of if a new sales push is in the works. Grand Theft Auto VI has been in the news recently, with its release possibly being linked to helping in console sales amid rising prices due to the ongoing chip shortage. PlayStation 4 owners reportedly have received notifications from Sony urging them to “upgrade” to PlayStation 5 before the game’s October launch as well.
It will also be interesting, if Best Buy does open pre-orders next week, what prices will be for the game? While it could launch at $70, some industry analysts have suggested $80 or even up to $100 could be possible. Some have said that a higher price will help the gaming industry, but it’s unlikely that players would agree with more increases, so buckle up, folks, it could be a bumpy ride.
