The team behind the MMO shooter Splitgate is working on a new title, reportedly incorporating elements from Titanfall and Call of Duty. 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx has provided exclusive details and footage to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson showing players engaged in a deathmatch. The footage, which was prohibited from public viewing, shows a player grappling with one of the many mechs scattered throughout a playfield. The player wins this match using the mech’s Gatling gun, protective shield, and missile launcher. The game is currently under development with the name Empulse.

“Whether or not Empulse can build and sustain an audience, though, remains to be seen… But I think 1047 Games’ brilliant movement mechanics from Splitgate, combined with elements of Call of Duty and Titanfall’s mechs, could be an easy winner.”

Rumors for an official new Titanfall game have circulated for some time, but EA has largely stayed silent, and given the many staff cuts it has implemented, there are some doubts about whether the team(s) at Respawn are still present to make a new franchise entry. 1047 Games has had some success with Splitgate, although not enough to see a sequel, and appears to be a qualified candidate as a studio to pursue a project such as this. Per the report, it is not known if Empulse will be free to play or not, and what engine will be used, but that could be UE5, given the studio used UE4 for its last title. Empulse’s visual design is said to resemble Ubisoft’s XDefiant. It is reportedly in the pre-alpha stage, and an official announcement is expected before this year’s end. 2026, so far, has seen several releases from smaller studios go on to become big hits, and while there’s always significant risk for any project, Empulse might just manage to check the right boxes for fans of Titanfall and Call of Duty to become a big hit.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
