Halo Studios has confirmed that its upcoming remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved, will see physical disc versions for both Sony and Microsoft’s consoles. The developers shared this and other details in a Q&A on the Halowaypoint website (via VGC), where the topic was at the top of the list of things asked.
“Yes! Buying the XBOX or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection. “

The topic of physical releases that include a disc rather than a download code has come to the forefront of the gaming community once again after Sony recently announced it would no longer offer games on disc after January 2028. Similarly, what is expected to be this year’s biggest release, Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will not get a disc version, but this really shouldn’t come as a surprise since its install size is reportedly between 150 GB and 200 GB.
While there was a time when games might get multi-disc releases, which sometimes saw as many as 4 to 10 depending on the title, they have largely fallen to the wayside, and even a single disc in a box can be rare. That said, even a 100 GB triple-layer BD disc cannot hold all the files required to install most modern AAA titles. This also brings up another detail, which is that just because a developer says it’s providing a disc, it doesn’t mean that further downloading won’t be required before the game is fully installed and playable. This also means that should a developer stop hosting said files or shut down that server, the romanticized idea of hand-me-downs of games to friends or family members becomes just as moot a point as the same scenario for all-digital distribution.
Sadly enough, this is just the state of things when it comes to gaming in the modern era, but at least fans will get something “tangible” in the box. The install size for Halo: Campaign Evoled is rumored to be around 100 GB, so there is a reasonable chance that the complete game may fit on it.
