The rumors are true, Ampere is back, baby, and gamers should be ready to game at 1080p like it’s 2021 all over again with the Palit GeForce RTX 3060 Infinity 2 OC. Sit back and enjoy 12GB of VRAM with the GPU that has dominated Steam’s hardware survey charts since its release. Having proved itself a formidable 1080p gaming GPU, the RTX 3060 12GB model established itself as the go-to card for many a gamer, but how will it fare in 2026 when most consoles are capable of 4K gaming, albeit with upscaling and other compromises? Well, many owners of this legendary card are probably still using it and will proclaim its greatness, just as Palit has in its press release.

“The Reigning Legend — Trusted 1080p Gaming Performance The GeForce RTX 3060 GPU continues to stand as a reigning champion on the Steam Hardware Survey, trusted by millions of gamers worldwide. For mainstream esports titles, the GeForce RTX 3060 Infinity 2 OC provides smooth and ultra-stable framerates at 1080p resolution.”

Now, while Palit has yet to reveal pricing and availability for the GeForce RTX 3060 Infinity 2 OC, here’s the real surprise: at least one other manufacturer, MSI, is selling a similar model at the RTX 3060’s original 2021 MSRP of $329.99. Shocking to say the least, as there are a number of modern gaming cards whose prices begin in the $500 range with less memory, but considerably more advanced hardware and modern features. Palit also mentions how the added memory, for those feeling that 8GB or less is just not enough, is “an affordable “productivity ticket” for students, video editors, and creators stepping into high resolution video editing, 3D modeling, and entry-level local AI processing without hitting hardware limits.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
