CDPR Announces The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and Releases a New Trailer for the Upcoming Paid DLC, Songs of the Past

CD PROJEKT RED held to its promise in revealing more about its upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past at Gamescom, but also surprised folks by announcing a Remaster edition of the 2015 game as well. The remaster, which actually follows the next-gen update released in December 2022, which brought DLSS 3 and ray tracing features to the game, adds further visual improvements for PC and consoles, along with other game changes.

Remaster Details:

• Upgraded Visuals and Performance – “Improved environment, NPC, and monster textures; major enhancements to foliage; plus reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing bring new detail and depth to every corner of the Continent.”
• Improved Combat – “Feel every swing, sign, and dodge like never before. With revamped animations, brutal new finishers, and an adaptive camera, the action feels more dynamic, fluid, and kinetic.”
• Reimagined Skill System – “Discover new ways to play with an overhauled skill tree that modernizes character progression, offering deeper flexibility and greater impact on your playstyle.”

Other updates for the remaster include overhauled animations, cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, immersive meditation, expanded photo mode, and more to be announced. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29 for PC and consoles and will be a free upgrade for those who already own the game.

Obviously, CDPR wants people to be excited about the remaster, but also about its upcoming Songs of the Past DLC, which is being developed by fellow franchise veterans over at Fool’s Theory. The next, and final, expansion sees Geralt on his last mission of the game, where new quests, monsters, and characters are encountered in a brand new region.

Songs of the Past will be released in 2027 for PC and consoles via GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net. In regard to Battle.net, CDPR also announced that it has a new partnership with Blizzard, and those who purchase Songs of the Past on its platform will unlock a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo IV.
