
The last major piece of DLSS 4.5 has landed, and unlike the headline feature from January, this one is not gated behind Blackwell. DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction went live yesterday as part of NVIDIA’s GeForce On presentation opening Gamescom 2026, and it runs on every GeForce RTX GPU from the 20 Series forward.
Ray Reconstruction replaces hand-tuned denoisers with an AI network that generates higher quality pixels in the parts of a ray-traced frame where rays were never sampled, and it is unified with DLSS Super Resolution rather than running as a separate pass. The 4.5 release swaps in a second generation transformer model. Per NVIDIA’s own figures, the new model delivers 35% more compute capability and processes 20% more parameters while holding roughly the same performance as the model it replaces, with a larger training dataset, deeper spatial awareness, and finer developer control over temporal accumulation.
Here is how to turn it on today, because it is not a driver install and it is not automatic:
- Open the NVIDIA app, go to Settings, then About, and opt in to Early Access releases. The official non-beta release follows in September.
- Once installed, open Graphics and select a supported game, or pick Global Settings at the top to apply it library-wide.
- Scroll to Driver Settings, click DLSS Override, then Model Presets, then Custom.
- Open the Ray Reconstruction drop-down and choose Recommended or Preset F, then Apply.

More than 30 titles are supported through the app at launch, and NVIDIA has shipped Unreal Engine 5 and Streamline plugins so developers can integrate the model directly. The same app update adds a few things enthusiasts have been asking about for a while: per-game Resizable BAR controls in Driver Settings, G-SYNC Pulsar settings moved into System, Display, and Borderless Windowed support for Optimal Playable Settings.
On the game side, 007 First Light gets its path tracing and Ray Reconstruction update on September 15, and Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant arrives September 24 with path tracing, Ray Reconstruction and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and is now bundled with select RTX GPUs, laptops and prebuilts.
We reported on Monday that the Ray Reconstruction files had already leaked into the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, and people were manually swapping them into other games days before this announcement. NVIDIA shipping the official version 24 hours later is either good timing or a company reading the room.
The more useful context: our DLSS 4.5 upscaling performance review found the second generation Super Resolution transformer holding image quality at aggressive upscaling ratios better than anything before it. Ray Reconstruction is the same architectural idea applied to the denoiser, and NVIDIA’s claim of more compute at flat performance is the number worth verifying rather than the image quality slides. In a year with no new gaming silicon from either vendor, free performance and quality that reaches back to the RTX 20 Series is the closest thing to an upgrade most readers are getting.
