Seasonic VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0
Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. Seasonic is the OEM and ODM of this unit. During more than 30 years as a company, Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard-bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus, and its reputation for quality, has led to an explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, XFX, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, and of course under its Seasonic brand among many more.
Today, we will be looking at one of Seasonic’s own branded units the Seasonic VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0 850W Power Supply (12851GXAFS). This power supply packs enough power for most users, 850W, into the brand new ATX 3.0 standard, with PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR, excellent efficiency, and an impressive warranty period.

The Seasonic VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0 is the third power supply we have seen from Seasonic here at TheFPSReview. Certainly, though, we are familiar with Seasonic as we have seen a lot of their power supplies over the years in other avenues. However, this particular unit is interesting in that it is coming in at a very mainstream 850W and supports the new, latest, and greatest revisions to the ATX12v specification. Thus, if this unit ends up being that mainstream, but modern, killer it is looking like then it might make it one of the most compelling power supply in the mainstream market today. Let’s first see what Seasonic has to say about this unit:

And now we wait for the full story...
Seasonic seem to have really taken over the market with PSUs that just work. In fact, I have not really heard of PSU failures from any of the big brands. A far cry from the early 2000's when PUSs used to explode on a reviewer's test bench in the hot box. Now, it looks like DC-DC cnverters have become the norm on the secondary side. In future reviews it would be worth investigating the secondary side components a bit more (mainly out of curiosity).
