Back in June, leaker kopite7kimi claimed that “Hopper” would be the codename for NVIDIA’s post-Ampere GPU architecture. It appears that he was right on the money: green team has filed a trademark request with the USPTO for that very name, which pertains to an API for gaming software. NVIDIA also submitted a filing for “Aerial,” an “application framework for building 5G high-performance, software defined, cloud-native telecommunication applications.”

If what Kopite shared on Twitter is true, then this will be NVIDIA’s first multi-chip GPU architecture. The MCM revolution has completely changed the CPU market with AMD’s Ryzen chiplet design. This could very well change the GPU industry the same way. Grace Hopper was a computer scientist who popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages. This led to the development of COBOL high-level programming language.
