Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, the first in a new series of big-budget westerns from actor and filmmaker Kevin Costner, who not only directed and starred in the film, but also paid $38 million of his own money to co-finance it, is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray on September 10, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced. News of the physical release comes as the film struggles to pass $25 million at the domestic box office, a figure that has prompted its sequel to be postponed from what was supposed to be an August release.
Costner on his gamble with Horizon and its sequels:
- “I know they say I’ve got $20 million of my own money in this movie. It’s not true.”
- “I’ve got now about $38 million in the film. That’s the truth. That’s the real number.”
- “[The sequels are] going to happen regardless, but they’re not already funded. I got my suitcase on the end of the street, you know, and seeing: Where are all you brave, rich billionaires? If I hear the word billionaire one more time, I think I’m going to puke.”
- “I need somebody that’s impulsive, is emotional, has money, and wants to go west.”
Horizon on Blu-ray will feature:
- DOLBY VISION/HDR PRESENTATION OF THE FILM
- DOLBY ATMOS AUDIO TRACK
- Kevin Costner’s Journey West – Featurette
- American Dream – Featurette
- The Saga Continues – Featurette
- Optional English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles for the main feature
