Project White Sands, a new video game that may or may not be Half-Life 3, is in development at Valve, according to the resume of Natasha Chandel, a voice actor and WGA/SAG-AFTRA member whose previous credits include several well-known video games, including Starfield, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Call of Duty: Vanguard. Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the most recent non-VR installment of the series, was released on October 10, 2007.
Players are saying:
- “HL3 copium is back boys…rumored in development as HLX.”
- “The code name for Deadlock was Neon Prime (and before that it was Citadel), so this is probably not that.”
- “White sands basically means snow, which is pretty popular in arctic regions, in which the Borealis (the main plot point of [Half-Life 2: Episode Two]) is situated so HL3 is finally confirmed.”
- “White Sands is a national park in New Mexico (same state Black Mesa is located in, of course), but also more significantly there is a military test range there…”
- “I think we’re at at state in which, even if we actually get an announcement for Half-Life 3, none of us would take it seriously.”
- “I’m going to be so incredibly dead inside if it is another Half Life game but a spin-off. Like Half Life: Tower Defence or some sh*t like that.”
One popular leaker says:
- “…I think this is Half-Life 3…I got to be very careful in answering that question, but yes, I think that this is a non-VR Half-Life game that you play an HV-suit-wearing character.”
- “[It’s been] in development since Half-Life: Alyx was released…it seem as if things are happening very quickly and are actually nearing a completion date sooner rather than later…”
- “…code named HLX, this appears to be a non-VR Half-Life game that is single player or cooperative, or both…it’s up in the air.”
The original word from Tyler McVicker:
Valve on Half-Life 2: Episode Two:
As Dr. Gordon Freeman, you were last seen exiting City 17 with Alyx Vance as the Citadel erupted amidst a storm of unknown proportions. In Episode Two, you must battle and race against Combine forces as you traverse the White Forest to deliver a crucial information packet stolen from the Citadel to an enclave of fellow resistance scientists.
Episode Two extends the award-winning Half-Life gameplay with unique weapons, vehicles, and newly-spawned creatures.
