A remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft Montreal’s 2013, pirate-themed installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, is not only well into development, but it could be released sooner than anyone might be expecting, according to a new report from an outlet that claims to have received some new information regarding the game, including gameplay that shows protagonist Edward Kenway sailing a ship on what is said to be an upgraded Anvil Engine. The report comes nearly a year after it was reported that Ubisoft had begun developing a Black Flag remake last year, or, more specifically, in September 2023. A promo video that shows off some of the game’s pirate ship battles can be found below.

…prior to the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay, which is understood to have affected the Assassin’s Creed pipeline of content releases, the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake (codenamed Obsidian) was to be released around November 2025, which would be around the same time that the series’ multiplayer offering, codenamed Invictus, is to be released.
