2025 could be a good year for console owners as increased multiplatform support is rumored to happen for a number of popular franchises. A detente of sorts appears to be happening between Sony and Microsoft when it comes to some of their most popular exclusive titles and while Nintendo has yet to officially announce details for its Switch 2 hybrid console it too is being thrown into the mix. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has gone on record in 2024 that Microsoft plans to bring more titles to other platforms, a topic which was also brought up during the Activision/Microsoft merger, and it looks like 2025 will see increased multiplatform support from console manufacturers.

From Xbox to PlayStation

Well-known podcaster Nate the Hate recently shared that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are among the titles that could be making their way to PlayStation, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2, this year. While still a rumor, Windows Central has corroborated those claims with their sources and added that Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and maybe Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition will also see a PlayStation 5 release. Other titles expected to make their way to PlayStation are the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages, a port of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, and Outer Worlds 2.

Per Windows Central:

“If all of this is true — and always take rumors with a pinch of salt, as plans can change — Microsoft will probably make more money from content this year than it ever has.”

Final Fantasy potentially coming to Xbox

The Final Fantasy franchise has long been a tentpole for Sony and while some of its major entries have made their way to PC, it has otherwise primarily remained a PlayStation exclusive but that could change. It’s also rumored that Final Fantasy Remake 7 will arrive on Xbox this year and will be followed by Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2026. It’s also possible that Sony could allow more first-party games to be released on other platforms following the successful launch of Helldivers 2.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
