Battlefield, the military FPS video game franchise that has spanned 12 mainline games since its introduction by DICE in 2002 with its first and iconic title, Battlefield 1942, may not return until the spring of 2026, according to new information that EA has shared to investors as part of its preliminary financial results for the third quarter ended December 31, 2024.

“EA unveiled Battlefield Labs, a new initiative allowing player-driven testing and innovation,” EA wrote in its section of selected operating highlights and metrics before revealing that the next Battlefield game would be released within the company’s fiscal year 2026, a period of time that would start on April 1, 2025 and end on March 31, 2026.

The time frame of release comes just a day after EA announced the aforementioned Battlefield Labs, a new testing program that was implemented by the publisher to ensure that the new Battlefield would be a great game. (Pre-alpha footage that shows off the title’s gameplay, which the developers have warned are subject to change, can be found starting at the 4:42 mark in the video below.)

“We’d like to invite you to join us for our most ambitious community development collaboration ever,” EA and the Battlefield Team told players in a letter that was published to the official Battlefield website yesterday. ” “This is an opportunity to provide feedback, validate the future of Battlefield, and have a direct and lasting impact on the next generation of Battlefield games.”

Battlefield 2024, the most recent installment of the series, was developed by DICE and released in November 2021.

“This is not by any mean a bad game in its current state, kudos to dice for fixing it throughout the years to an enjoyable state but considering the amount of PVP shooters in the market you can easily skip this one and not miss out on anything,” reads a negative review for the game that can be found on Steam.
