MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC Video Card

Introduction

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 was launched on May 19th, 2025, from the Computex 2025 event, though it was announced earlier back in late April alongside the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti launch. The GeForce RTX 5060 is NVIDIA’s lowest-tier performance-segment based video card in the GeForce RTX 50 Series Blackwell lineup, positioned below the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with a $299 MSRP. With the video card now launched, we are able to take a look at a new partner card from MSI, the MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC video card, with a current listing on MSI’s storefront of $359.99. The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC (G5060-8GC) is a custom video card design from MSI, with a factory overclock, and features MSI’s upgraded TWIN FROZR 10 design. The GeForce RTX 5060 does not have a reference NVIDIA design; it is AIB-driven.

The GeForce RTX 5060 is based on NVIDIA’s Blackwell architecture, and the GB206 die is on the 4N TSMC manufacturing process. GB206 is also used on the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti; therefore, for the GeForce RTX 5060, this is a cut-down GeForce RTX 5060 Ti in specification. It comprises 30 SMs with 128 CUDA Cores per SM. When you add all this up, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 has 3,840 CUDA Cores, 120 5th Gen Tensor Cores, 30 4th Gen RT Cores, 48 ROPs, and 120 Texture Units. The GPU Boost Clock is set at 2497MHz. Memory consists of 8GB of GDDR7 on a 128-bit memory bus at 28Gbps, giving it 448GB/s of memory bandwidth. The TDP is just 145W. While the GeForce RTX 5060 supports PCI-Express 5.0, it runs with x8 lanes instead of x16. MSRP is $299.

MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC

In the MSI GeForce RTX 5060 GPU line-up, MSI is offering a plethora of options and designs at different price points, with varying features. MSI has dual-fan designs and robust triple-fan designs as well, this generation, in varying sizes for different computer builds. MSI has a complete lineup across its GAMING series, INSPIRE Series, VENTUS Series, and SHADOW Series for the GeForce RTX 5060. The model we are reviewing today is among the GAMING Series, specifically an OC model, but a non-OC version of this exists as well. In the GAMING Series, MSI also offers its triple-fan GAMING TRIO version, also in OC and non-OC models of, with both a white and black version of each as well.

Below the GAMING Series is the VENTUS series, which is a dual-fan solution with a simpler design but also offered in white and silver/black with OC and non-OC versions, as well as a special triple-fan version. The INSPIRE Series has two models available, OC and non-OC, with a unique gold aesthetic in a dual-fan solution. Finally, the SHADOW Series exists, with a simple stealth look. If you are looking at a model from MSI that is at the $299 MSRP, that would be the SHADOW 2X OC model, which sits at $299 on the MSI storefront.

Going back to the MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC model (G5060-8GC) we are reviewing, this is a factory overclocked video card with a Boost Clock of 2625MHz and an MSI Center enabled Extreme Performance Mode of 2640MHz. This compares to the MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING model, which runs at the NVIDIA default specification of a Boost Clock of 2497MHz. Therefore, the MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC has a 5% factory overclock out-of-the-box.

The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC measures 248mm in length (9.7″ inches), 135mm in width (5.3″ inches), and 41mm in height (1.6″ inches); therefore, this is a very compact video card and will fit well in small form factor builds. For power, it utilizes a single 8-pin PCIe Power Connector, and MSI recommends a 550W PSU with power consumption rated at 155W. It has 3x DisplayPort 2.1b and 1x HDMI 2.1b.

The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC is based on MSI’s new TWIN FROZR 10 thermal design. This design has been upgraded with enhanced wave edges for the fin stack for heat dissipation. This is a dual-fan solution, with a fan shroud, which then has the heatsink with heatpipes, the PCB, and then a solid backplate. The heatsink extends beyond the heatsink to allow an air-passthrough. MSI uses DrMOS power stage solutions to improve efficiency with low power loss and enhanced voltage control. There are additional fuses built into the PCB as well to provide safeguards against electrical damage.

The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC uses MSI’s STORMFORCE fans, which have seven blades with a claw texture to improve air pressure. There is also a circular arc around the fans to concentrate airflow, reduce noise, and improve performance. The fans also support ZERO FROZR ability, which brings the fans to a complete stop when the GPU temperature is lower.

The heatsink itself uses MSI’s AIRGLOW CONTROL thermal configuration with its WAVE-CURVED 3.0 fin stack design. The fin stack is designed with wave edges to improve efficiency, but even more is gained with this upgrade by adjusting the size of the wave edges under the fan motor and other spots where there is less airflow. The heatsink makes direct contact with the GPU and memory modules with a solid nickel-plated copper baseplate. MSI uses high-quality clay-based thermal pads for heat dissipation. With CORE PIPES, MSI has squared off the heatpipes under the baseplate to maximize surface area and contact. A sturdy, full METAL BACKPLATE is used to help strengthen the video card and has the airflow vents.

There is an RGB logo atop the video, and this video card supports MSI Center and MSI Afterburner.

SUMMARY

The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC offers MSI's highest factory overclock in the GeForce RTX 5060 Series lineup this generation from MSI. It offers that factory overclock in a very small package, making it highly compatible with PC builds, and it runs very quiet thanks to the TWIN FROZR 10 thermal cooling configuration. It has great overclocking potential for such a small package as well, with low power and low noise. It provides a performance uplift from the previous generation, acting as an upgrade from the previous gen, or prior gens, and even from the competition's last gen video cards as well. The MSI GeForce RTX 5060 8G GAMING OC is a solid offering from MSI this generation.
