As forecast by analysts, Battlefield 6 is off to an impressive start if player counts on Steam are anything to go by, with it reaching top spots on the charts. At $69.99 for the base game, the latest entry is still a hit to the wallet, but that hasn’t stopped it from being number one in popular releases and trending games, while also making it to second place in most played games on Steam with 747,440 concurrent players during its first day of release. Of course, numbers for Sony, Microsoft, and Epic Games stores are not included, but it’s probably safe to guess that total units sold by today could’ve well exceeded one million. Earlier this week, analysts predicted the game could sell as many as five million copies during its first week of release, which at this point seems like an attainable feat.

“With Battlefield 6, we set out to raise the series to new heights with intense combat powered by world-class gunplay, epic warfare featuring a new tactical take on the series’ trademark awe-inspiring destruction, and the incredible player freedom that has made Battlefield an iconic series over the years.”

Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield

Generally speaking, reviews from media outlets have been very positive regarding the game’s multiplayer mode. However, when it comes to the single-player campaign, things are once again a bit more hit or miss, with some claiming it to be a bit more lackluster or a boilerplate attempt. Sadly, this does seem to be a bit more par for the course with the franchise, but its developers know that most fans are more interested in its multiplayer aspect, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that’s where it shines. Regardless it currently has a Very Positive ranking on Steam from over 8,000 players.

Meanwhile, following a very successful Beta testing phase which saw over 25 million players drop in to check the game out, the developers have listened to players and pushed out over 260 fixes, tweaks, updates, and improvements which address “bugs, refining balance, and enhancing clarity throughout the entire experience.

Obviously, with so many fixes, there’s too much to list here, but the full BATTLEFIELD 6 UPDATE 1.0.1.0 patch notes can be found here.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
