Hideo Kojima’s sequel has found its second wind on PC. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach crossed 2 million total sales across PC and PlayStation 5 as of this week, according to data from Alinea Analytics. The game had accumulated over 1.6 million copies sold on PS5 before its PC launch on March 19, and Steam accounted for more than 425,000 of those total sales in its first week on PC. That means the PC version added roughly 26 percent to the title’s total commercial footprint inside of seven days, which is a healthy result by any measure.

The port was handled by Nixxes Software, the Dutch studio responsible for a string of well-regarded PlayStation-to-PC conversions including several entries in the Horizon series and the first Death Stranding PC port. The technical results have been broadly praised: the game supports DLSS 4, AMD FSR 4.1, and Intel XeSS, adds ray tracing not present in the console versions, supports ultrawide aspect ratios up to 32:9, and includes Multi Frame Generation support. For once, “the PC version is the best version” is not just boosterism.

PC Gamer’s review of the port noted the game runs confidently across a wide range of hardware. DSOGaming’s performance analysis found it among the most optimized AAA releases of 2026, with no meaningful stuttering reported across multiple GPU configurations from the RTX 3080 to the RTX 5090. Steam reviews sit at “Overwhelmingly Positive”.

The Decima engine, which powers Death Stranding 2, has proven remarkably scalable. High-end hardware like an RTX 5090 paired with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D delivers absurd frame rates even at maximum settings with ray tracing enabled. The game’s traversal-focused design makes it an unusually good candidate for frame generation since low input latency matters far less here than it does in a competitive shooter.

If you skipped the PS5 version and have been waiting for the PC release, the wait paid off. Death Stranding 2 joins a short list of recent ports where Nixxes delivered something that is genuinely the definitive edition of the game. The 2 million sales milestone also sends a quiet signal to Sony: PC ports work.
