Valve Preps Steam Controller Unboxing Video, Sparking Rumors That It Could Soon Launch

It’s possible that Valve could be readying its newest Steam Controller for release following the discovery of an unboxing video in its database. It somewhat makes sense that Valve could first pick the Steam Controller for release from its upcoming hardware lineup since it doesn’t contain any of the expensive and in high-demand DRAM/NAND parts that its Steam Machine and Steam Frame will utilize.

A post on social media shows that Valve has uploaded an unboxing video on SteamDB, but the video is currently unavailable for viewing. The upload has, of course, caused more than a few to believe that Valve could be planning on launching the Steam Controller soon. Valve has engineered the 2026 model to be a one-stop interface for users to access their Steam library and play games. A removable magnetic charger doubles as a wireless transmitter for ease of us while the controller can also be paired via Bluetooth if preferred.

Valve has designed it with the Steam Machine in mind, so users don’t need its puck to pair and the Steam Frame’s cameras to track the controller via its infrared LEDs, enabling users to have a more immersive experience with the wireless VR headset. Users can also take their mobile gaming to the next level and use the controller with the Steam Deck. While obviously focused towards Valve’s family of hardware, the Steam Controller can also be used with an assortment of devices, ranging from PCs running either Linux or Windows, Mac, and other mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. Although not stated on the website, it’s probable that it could also function with some smart TV apps as well. A price for the controller has not yet been revealed, but that too could be on the horizon.
