Amazon Prime Video has released the full trailer for Spider-Noir, the upcoming series starring Nicolas Cage as the 1930s noir-flavored version of the web-slinger. The show’s description from its creators leans hard into the genre conceit: per the trailer, this is “a detective story, but the detective happens to also have spider powers.”

The Spider-Man Noir character — a Great Depression-era version of the hero operating in a gritty, black-and-white-adjacent New York — has had enthusiast appeal since his introduction in the comics and, more recently, his appearance as a scene-stealing supporting character in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where Cage’s deadpan delivery was a highlight. A full live-action series built around the character is a natural next step, and Prime Video has the budget and track record at this point to make it work if the writers lean into the pulp genre elements rather than trying to graft a standard MCU rhythm onto a setting that thrives on atmosphere and world-specific tone.

The noir aesthetic is a better fit for the PC gaming crowd’s sensibilities than most superhero content. If the trailer is any indication, this isn’t going to be another assembly-line Marvel product — the 1930s setting, the hard-boiled detective framing, and Cage’s obvious enthusiasm for the role give it a distinct personality.
